CANVASES 2022-23

“THE DAD I NEVER WAS”
12”X14”HX1.5” TROMPE L’OEIL FRAME

THE WORKS HERE STARTED LIFE AS ORIGINAL PHOTOS, which I then digitally adjusted and printed on canvas. After stretching onto bars I extensively manually edited and adjusted (and in some cases intentionally degraded or otherwise altered) them using various media including paint and drawing materials. Some are imbued with rather rich surface interest.

The six landscapes are variants of a photo series from 2014 to 2018 titled The View from Oxy Hill. The first time I trudged up to the top of the Occidental College-adjacent hill (inexplicably dubbed Mt. Fiji) a half mile from my studio, I was dumbstruck by compositional elements reminiscent of Dutch landscapes. Over the course of three years I documented a stand of eucalyptus trees under various atmospheric conditions, mostly during the ’golden hour,’ and in various stages of succumbing to drought and climate change.

All canvases are unframed except the still life, and are stretched on medium-thick bars. The canvases have roughly painted sides (see below), and are mostly ~1.25” deep. The works are designed to be hung as-is, with integral sawtooth hangers (and magnets for leveling if my idea is sound). Image dimensions and titles are shown when expanded. Gotta say these are really hard to shoot and color correct, so the images may not perfectly reflect the originals. Contact me for availability and price list.
